Kirkcaldy GT racer Jonny Adam will be in the drivers seat when Aston Martin Racing makes its Blancpain Sprint Series debut later this month.

Jonny will contest the final two rounds of the 2014 season in the V12 Vantage GT3 alongside ex-F1 test driver Andy Soucek under the banner of Beechdean AMR.

The new-for-2014 Blancpain Sprint Series has been hailed a great success, with promoters SRO offering teams a series of one-hour long GT races.

The penultimate round will take place at Zolder in Belgium on October 19, with the final two weeks later, on November 2, at Baku in Azerbaijan.

Jonny is looking forward to a new challenge.

“It’s something I’m excited to do,” he told the Press.

“It’s quite a high profile championship with good teams and drivers - we just want to showcase how good the Aston Martin is.

“I’m also looking forward to working with my new team mate.

“Andy has good circuit knowledge and since I’ve never raced these two circuits it will be good to have someone with experience.

“He’s never raced an Aston Martin before so we’re both learning different things from each other.”

Adam is glad to get another chance to finish his season on a high after a disappointing end to the British GT Championship.

“We didn’t have a good end to the year,” he said. “We finished fifth overall after leading the championship at the half way point.

“We just had bad luck in the last three or four rounds so this will be another chance to put that right.”

Beechdean AMR team owner Andrew Howard added: “Having been involved with the Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 from the beginning it is very exciting for us to see the car racing at the highest level of GT3 racing.

“It’s a good test for the team for future projects.”
