The Kingdom Kangaroos, Fife’s Aussie Rules team, fell to their first loss of the season on Saturday, going down to the Falkirk Silverbacks at Beveridge Park 48-76.
Having won their opening fixture against the Giants in Glasgow last week, the Roos were hoping to hit the top of the league with a win, but a more youthful and energetic Falkirk side quickly made them realise it was not likely to be an easy day.
The game started well with an early goal from Alex Gregg putting the Fife side ahead, but as the game progressed it became apparent that Falkirk’s superior fitness and energy was seeing them reach every loose ball ahead of their opponent.
Some desperate defending from James Hopgood and Fife debutant Darryl Warrender kept the score from getting out of hand, and the Roos were able to counter first via Warwyck Smith then Gavin Scott.
Despite the score being within two goals at the start of the fourth quarter, the Fife side could not close the gap, and an unfortunate injury to Smith did not help the comeback attempt.
As time ticked down neither side were able to retain sustained possession but Falkirk surged further in front with some shots from range, giving them their first win.
The Kingdom Kangaroos next home match is on Saturday, June 13.
