Motorsport fans in Fife are in for a treat this weekend as the MCE British Superbike Championship rolls into Knockhill.
Thousands of spectators are expected as the UK’s premier motorcycle race series heads to the Fife track for its one-and-only visit to Scotland.
Four rounds into the season and the ingredients for a stellar year are beginning to formulate with five different race winners already this season, aboard three different makes of machine, namely Kawasaki, BMW and Ducati.
JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider Leon Haslam tops the drivers standings ahead of the visit to Fife, with Shane Byrne just three points behind in second.
However, Knockhill is a place that traditionally sends the form book out the window and Scottish hope Stuart Easton will hope to give the home crowd something to cheer about.
The Hawick rider claimed his first top ten finish of the season in the previous round at Brands Hatch and now the local hero will be aiming to up the ante again this weekend after scoring a double podium at the Fife circuit last year.
Easton said: “I always get excited for the Knockhill round as we only get to race in Scotland once a year and it is my one and only home race so I always look forward to it.” Knockhill events director Stuart Gray is looking forward to an action-packed weekend.
“Well, what can you say about the BSB Championship this year?” he said. “Thrilling, dramatic, inspiring; the list goes on.
“I know myself and my team, and Scots race fans, are eagerly anticipating this one, and it’s easy to see why.
“Top names, top bikes and top action are pretty much guaranteed. We’ve also added our usual spin to things this year, as we celebrate 20 years of Superbike racing at Knockhill.
“All-new spectator bankings will further improve fans viewing and a swathe of additional entertainment will generate a real festival feeling to the weekend.”
In addition to the Superbikes, a number of support races will take place featuring Scottish contenders, namely Taz Mackenzie (Supersport), Taylor Mackenzie (Stock 1000), and Knochill Club’s Lewis Rollo, who is making great progress in the Superstock 600 Championship.
Qualifying takes place on Saturday, followed by a packed 16-race schedule on Sunday. For ticket information, visit www.knockhill.com.
