ANSTER Haddies runner Bill Hutchison, right, has been crowned the The Scottish Ultra Marathon Series Over-50s Champion for 2011.

The Elie man, who will be 60 next year, achieved his goal after completing four ultra marathons - a race over 26.2 miles - and securing victory in three of them.

Mr Hutchison ran the 33-mile Deeside race in Aberdeen, the 56-mile Cateran in Glenshee, the 36-mile Speyside in Buckie and the 41-mile River Ayr Way in Ayrshire to claim his title.

As well as winning the Over-50s series, he finished eighth overall and completed his final two marathons in just four weeks, which his Haddie colleagues said was a remarkable feat.
