KARATE teenager Jay Hogg, from Methil, recently competed at the British International open Championships held in Glasgow, and returned home with a medal.

Jay, who is 14 and trains at Leven Community Centre with the Shotokan2000 Karate club, competed in the under-15 years Kata and Kumite events of the championship, in which 16 countries took part.

He was awarded a bronze medal in the Kata event, narrowly missing out on the final by points. He also reached the quarter-final in the Kumite event.

His instructor, James Ford Snr, congratulated him, saying it was a brilliant effort by the dedicated young lad who trains five days a week.

He added Jay had the ability to be one of the top young students in Fife, should he keep up the hard work.
