No hill too high for Fife AC runners

Fife AC hosted the annual Hill of Tarvit race last Wednesday.

Talented U17 Tristan Rees (Fife AC), who has enjoyed success over the cross country and hills this year, battled the challenging course and tough weather conditions to take the victory in an impressive time of 34.49.

The top three was completed by Billy Gibson (Dundee Hawkhill Harriers) in second in 36.40 and Jonathon Knox (Anster Haddies) in third in 37.08.

Fife AC’s Sophie Mullins won the female race by over three minutes, placing ninth overall in 38.03. The female top three was completed by Rosie Doull (Dundee Road Runners) in second in 41.48 and U17 Ailsa Cruickshanks (Fife AC) in third 42.37.

The rest of the top 10 was as follows: 4. Martin Butcher (Carnegie Harriers) 37.28. 5. Paul Keiran (Carnegie Harriers) 37.32. 6. Daniel Clarke (Fife AC) 37.39. 7. Steve Matthews (Dundee Hawkhill Harriers) 37.59. 8. Johnny McBain (Dundee Hawkhill Harriers) 38.02. 9. Sophie Mullins. 10. Craig Morris (Fife AC) 38.08.

Only two days after winning the Hill of Tarvit race, Sophie made it two wins out of two at the Templeton Trail Race in Dundee. Sophie snuck into the top ten again, placing first female and ninth overall in a time of 37.25. Other Fife AC performances included 12 Tony Martin (1st M60) 37.40, 16 Amie McKimmie (2nd female) 37.58, and 20 Nick Johnston 39.09.

A number of Fife AC juniors made the trip to Inverness to compete in the UK Youth Development League.

Campbell Palmer was one of the star performers of the day, winning the U15 A 300m in a personal best of 39.44 and placing second in the U15 A high jump in 1.50m.

In the same age group, Fife AC’s Cian Young and Struan Christie dominated the sprint events. Cian won the A 200m in 25.35 and placed second in the A 100m in 12.57, while Struan won the B 100m in 12.42 and the B 200m in 25.31.

To top off an excellent day, Struan also placed second in the A long jump in a personal best of 5.19.

Other Fife AC highlights included Abbie Coote (U15) - A 100m 6th in 14.47, A 75m hurdles 3rd in 13.62 and A long jump 6th in 3.87; Isobel Olson (U13) - A 70m hurdles 2nd in 13.42 (pb) and A high jump 3rd in 1.25; Nathan Pike (U15) - B high jump 2nd in 1.40; Jake Middleton (U15) - B 300m 2nd in 42.54.
