ROWERS from the St Ayles Rowing Club in Anstruther, pictured right, had cause for celebration recently after a successful regatta appearance.
Rowers and supporters from the local club took part in the chiltie Buie skiff event and the Anstruther crew of six men and 12 women put in a really strong performance by winning three of the races and coming second in two others.
Anstruther were joined at the regatta by teams from Cockenzie/Port Seaton, Loch Broom SC, Portobello, Newhaven, North Berwick and Ullapool, as well as hosts Coigach Community Rowing Club.
There were sprint races over 1000m without a turn and with 10 different categories this meant all the rowers took part in at least one race.
Each contest saw up to nine boats at the start line, making for exciting racing for the rowers and even more excitement for the spectators shouting on their teams.
The racing started with the Anstruther Ladies Open team winning the first event.
The mixed over-50 team then won the Tanner Cup and with the help of North Berwick youngster Patrick Waite went on to win the in the under-30 mixed race.
In the other races, North Berwick won the Ladies 45+ and Coigach Lass won the remaining events. The Anstruther team also picked up a trophy for being the best all-rounders.
The club will be attending other regattas throughout the summer but will continue to have rowing sessions at Anstruther harbour and welcomes anyone to come along and try rowing.
