A GLENROTHES boxer has come a step closer to a British title bout after a superb weekend victory, reports MIKE DELANEY.
Stuart Green defeated previously unbeaten Patrick Liam Walsh by one point in front of a partisan crowd in Halifax on Friday night.
Coach Steven McGuire Senior described the bout as a “war” and the referee who awarded the fight to 25 year-old Green needed an escort to get out of the venue.
He said: “I actually thought Stuart had won it by a couple of rounds, although it was two boxers going to toe-to-toe throughout, but the thing that matters is that it now gives Stuart the chance of a British title eliminator.
“He’s the Scottish champion and he has taken on and beaten all the big guns.”
Glenrothes had a near clean sweep at a boxing show held at the town’s Gilvenbank Hotel last month, including a victory for Steven McGuire Junior and it is hoped that he will return to the ring again in the near future.
