Swallows scrape by Fife Thistle

St Monans Swallows..........1

Fife Thistle............................0

ST MONANS welcomed Fife Thistle for this vital league game and then duly made sure the away side wouldn’t be taking any points back on their short trip home.

Both teams started strongly and chances were created at each end, with Swallows’ McGillvary having a header cleared off the line and Hughes blasting over from close range.

Thistle also had a clear chance but a header from 10 yards flew wide.

Swallows thought they had taken the lead when Wishart swivelled in the box but the opposing ‘keeper made a great save from his strong shot. This left the first half goalless.

The second half continued in the same vein and either team could have opened their account.

But, on 65 minutes, St Monans broke the deadlock when McGillvary headed a ball through the opposing defence to allow Hughes to round the ‘keeper and slot home.

From then until the end, both teams had a number of close shaves, with Black especially making a terrific one-handed save to enable Swallows to collect another valuable three points.

This was a battling performance by the home team, displaying great team spirit, with every player playing his part.

Match day sponsor was WM Accountancy Services.

This weekend, St Monans face an away trip to Rosyth Wanderers in a Division One league match, with a 2pm kick-off.
