Local veteran athletes John Thomson, Coaltown of Balgonie and Paul Roarty, Markinch were in gold medal winning form at the Scottish Masters Indoor Championships at the Kelvin Hall, Glasgow on Sunday.

Running in the M35 category Roarty kicked of with victory in the 3000 metres winning in 9 minutes 46 .08 seconds, with only a break of half an hour he was back on track for the 400 metres where he raced to a second gold, stopping the clock at 55.33 seconds.

45 minutes later he rounded off a magnificent day by taking his gold medal haul to three as crossed the finish line victorious in the 800 metres in a time of 2 minutes 05.52 seconds.

Later in the day it was Thomson’s turn to strike gold, John whose athletic pursuits are backed by a grant from Fife Council, lined up for the M50 1500 metres where he turned in a fine performance clocking 4 minutes 30 seconds for the 7.5 lap race.
