Thornton Golf Club have tee’d off their annual Club Golf programme for 2012.

The programme, for junior golfers and now in its third year at the club, has proven to be a huge success by introducing more than 30 local children to the sport and to the club.

Over the past few weeks licenced coaches from the club have delivered introductory sessions at local primary schools and provided the opportunity for children to visit the club and play on the practice field.

Club spokesman, John Anderson, said: “We have been working hard to provide an opportunity for children in the area to take up golf.

“The sessions we offer give children the opportunity to learn the basic skills of golf as well as the social etiquette of being part of a golf club.

“All children completing year one of the programme will also receive junior membership of the club free up to age 13.”

Michael Kavanagh, Fife Council sports development officer, added “What Thornton Golf Club have achieved in such a short period of time is fantastic.

“The programme is part of a wider junior development programme that the club is aspiring to.

“The club was rewarded with their ClubFife Development level accreditation recently and continue to grow from strength to strength.”

Sessions take place on a Wednesday night from 6 to 7pm and for further information, or to book your place telephone 771111, or e-mail:
