A seven wicket win for Freuchie over Edinburgh Academicals saw them promoted as winners of East League Division 1 to the East Championship on a day where the two challengers to Freuchie both lost.
Accies were scrapping to avoid relegation and got off to a good start after being put in.
Brothers Andrew and Stuart Cosh knocked up 43 for the first wicket in 8.4 overs, but after the former became the first of Liam Kelly’s three catches they spluttered almost to a stop.
The veteran bowlers Scott Gourlay and Dave Cowan put a brake on progress and they had slipped to 81-6 when the drinks interval arrived after 25 overs.
Cowan bowled his 10 overs to take 4-28 and Gourlay’s 10 only cost 16, for one wicket.
Stuart Cosh stayed to make the top score of 39 from 75 balls, hitting 4 fours and Jahangir Alam made 28 with a six and four fours off 43 balls.
Syed Kabir and Jeffy Joseph also made doubles before the visitors were all out 130 off 39 overs.
Graham Welsh, caught an excellent catch at slip, and Jock Wallace took 2-20 off 6 overs.
With second-placed Gala beaten Freuchie were champions before they batted.
Robbie Birrell and Alan Wallace opened with 34 for the first wicket from 5.2 overs.
Gourlay batted at three and he and Wallace made sure that there would be no way back for Accies.
They put on 59 together in 16.2 overs before Wallace was out for 40, six fours off 67 balls, off the bowling of Ashok Kumar who bowled his 10 overs for 1-12 and was on the day the best of the Accies bowlers.
Lawrence Mann got Graham Dodds out, bowling his 10 for 2-32, but Gourlay suddenly unleashed a volley of shots which took the villagers to their target in 33.5 overs.
Gourlay made 59 not out with a six and nine fours off 90 balls and the partying started.
