No medal haul for Kingdom athletes in Livingston

The team of Annabel Simpson, Angela Richardson, Steph Pennycook and Sheena Logan finished behind tough competition from Central AC, Edinburgh AC and Aberdeen AAC.

Annabel got the girls off to an excellent start, leading the first leg runners home in 17.40.

She was backed up by strong runs from the fast improving Angela Richardson in 36.51, Steph Pennycook in 17.47 and Sheena Logan in 35.06.

Annabel’s time was the second fastest short leg of the day, bettered only by UK Indoor Championships 1500m bronze medallist Maddie Murray of Edinburgh AC, despite her still being a junior.

The club’s B team of Amie McKimmie, Halina Rees, Katie Jones and Jen Spence also performed well, finishing in an excellent sixth place.

At the Scottish Junior Road Race Championships, which took place in Greenock, Fife AC’s U15 boys’ team of Robert Sparks, Iain McWhinnie and Gavin McWhinnie won a well-deserved bronze medal.

Madras College student Robert, who was crowned Scottish Inter District Cross Country Champion earlier this winter, ran well to lead the team home in seventh in 13.58.

He was backed up by strong runs from twins Iain and Gavin in 15th and 16th respectively, who were both given the same time of 14.34.

George Rees, the newly crowned Scottish Schools Cross Country Champion, ran well in the U17 men’s race. missing out on the bronze medal by just four seconds.

Fife AC’s popular Midweek Series kicks off on Wednesday, April 13 with the Strathkinness to Blebocraigs 4.5 mile race.

The track season kicked off at the Scottish Universities Athletics Championships in Aberdeen.

First year Glasgow University dental student Annabel Simpson became Scottish Universities 3000m Champion, winning the race by a staggering 38 seconds in 10.07.
