Largo however gained the win which may well guarantee their survival in ESCA Division 2 without a ball being bowled.

StBoswells were unable to raise a team and had to concede the match.

While the 20 points for the win were welcome there is no doubt that the Largo team would have preferred to play and possibly lose than to win in this fashion.

Next week Largo are away to Fauldhouse Victoria.

Across the Forth the second XI were in Edinburgh playing Heriots thirds at Goldenacre.

Winning the toss captain H. Coates elected to bat.

Opening batsmen Mowat and D. Coates found it hard going in the face of an accurate and hostile attack.

While Coates made good progress he regularly lost partners - Mowat(6),B. Coates(6), Barclay(10) and R.Tooze(3). J. Tooze and Coates eventually steadied the ship taking Largo to 74 for 4 before Coates was caught and bowled for a hard won 37.

Tooze formed brief partnerships with the lower order as he saw Largo to 126 for 9.

Tooze’s 30 not out was all the more creditable as this was his first outing of the season.

After tea Heriots’ Burt and Arumugam made their intentions clear as they set about knocking off the runs required in quick order taking the attack to the Largo bowlers.

Despite regular changes to the bowling Largo could not achieve a breakthrough.

Burt finished on 88 not out and Arumugan on 30 not out.

On Sunday Largo’s Kwikcricket squad took part in the Glenrothes Kwikcricket Festival.

As they have done throughout the season in tournaments at Perth, Stirling , Arbroath and Dunfermline they performed very well with wins against Glenrothes and Falkland.

Most of the local cricket squad also took part in last Wednesday’s prestigious Carlton CC tournament in Edinburgh.
