Nothing can beat the Old Course, says Fisher

Fisher, battling it out at the top end of the leaderboard after an opening round of 65 at Kingsbarns, started his second round at St Andrews' Old Course early on Friday morning.

He's very much in contention to lift the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship title late in the afternoon once the final round is completed at the Home of Golf.

And the world number 92 reckons there's no more fitting course in the world to collect a title.

He said: "You never get tired of playing St Andrews, it’s the Home of Golf and it’s always a privilege to play there.

"It all depends on the weather at St Andrews, if the wind gets up then level par could be a decent score, but if it stays calm you can obviously take advantage.

"But whatever the weather, I always love playing the Old Course."

Fisher has been in good form of late and last month was pipped by Frenchman Alexander Levy to the Porsche European Open title in Germany.

He's looking to maintain those levels of performance across this weekend at the Dunhill and was chuffed with his first round score at Kingsbarns.

"I’m obviously very pleased with the way round, and it’s a good continuation of the form I showed in Germany a couple of weeks back," he said.

"Kingsbarns is normally the easier of the three courses so you know you have to make a decent score here, but when the wind blows it’s anything but easy, because some holes are very exposed to the elements.

"I’m delighted with seven under to start."
