Olympic relay bronze for Eilidh

Athlete Eilidh Doyle has concluded her medal collection with a bronze in the Olympic 4 x 400 metres relay.

The 29-year-old Kinross sportswoman ran the first leg as the British quartet – which also included Anyika Onuora, Emily Diamond and Christine Ohuruogu – finished third behind the United States and Jamaica.

Eilidh’s succees means she now has a full set of major championship medals in her collection, having previously won gongs at the World and European Championships and the Commonwealth Games.

It also made up for the disappointment of missing out on the medals in the final of her individual event – she finished eighth (and last) in the 400 metres hurdles on Friday – and brought the Team GB overall medal tally to 66, surpassing the 65 won in London four years ago.

Eilidh had been rested for the previous day’s heats following her 400m hurdles but came back in and ran a storming first leg, to set the British team up expertly.
