A small team of Cupar and District Swimming Club members attended the final leg of the East District Age Group competition at the Edinburgh Royal Commonwealth Pool.

To compete, they had to have already achieved set times in the 200m individual medley and 100m strokes.

The Commonwealth Pool then gave the swimmers the opportunity to race in a 50m pool rather than the normal 25m galas.

For some, it was their first time in a long course pool.

Despite the inexperience, all the club’s young swimmers stepped up to the mark.

In the 200m individual medley, Liam Black, Euan Gray, Max Muir and Andrew Sanderson all secured their first long course accredited times, and Caera Baillie, Ella McGeorge and Hannah Staal all improved previous long course personal bests.

The daunting 100m butterfly was swum by Caera, Liam and Hannah who all achieved new personal bests, with Andrew and Rebecca Black swimming it for the first time in a 50m pool.

Liam secured a new fastest time in the 100m backstroke, with Max and Euan both getting their first accredited long course swims in this particular stroke.

Hannah, Liam, Caera, Euan, Max, Andrew and Rebecca all swam in the 100m freestyle, with Hannah and Liam setting long course personal bests.

Ella also swam a personal best to get into the 14 years girls final, and then came fourth setting another fastest time.
