Cupar veteran Mike shows he’s no slouch

The third race of the new cross-country season survived the earlier unseasonal weather as athletes contested a Hare and Tortoise Relay at Rumgally/Kemback Bridge.

With the heavy rain and strong winds relenting, Cupar veteran Mike MacDonald breezed around the opening 2.2km stage circling the farm fields posting the fastest time of the day at 8 minutes 15 seconds closely followed by James Hall, Ceres – 8.23.

Not so slow junior tortoise Oscar Geary, Anstruther, held pole position clocking 10 minutes 12 seconds to send off Macdonald over stage three timed at 8.46.

Geary then covered his final effort in 11.03 before MacDonald anchored the duo home with a third effort of 8.56.

Archie Suttie from Pittenweem partnered fellow junior Freya Hedley of St Andrews to second place 43 seconds clear of third-placed Isla Hedley and over 40 veteran Merce Torres.

Partnered by tortoise Anna Suttie hare, Cupar’s Anna Dalglish posted the fastest female time of the race at 8 minutes 44 seconds.

Just 24 hours later MacDonald and Hall warmed down with two eight-mile circuits of Pitmedden Forest preparation for MacDonald’s appearance at the Glen Ogle 33-mile Ultra Race on November 7.
