Triathlon Scotland this week announced the winners of its annual celebration night and there was success for East Fife Triathlon Club’s Craig Trewartha, who won the Coach Development Award and Lucy Cottee from the University of St Andrews TriathlOn Club, winner of the Young Volunteer of the Year.

Nominated by its members, the annual Triathlon Scotland awards acknowledge the athletes, coaches and volunteers making a difference to triathlon across Scotland.

The club has become much more accessible to all levels of athletes over her tenure, and much of that can be credited to Lucy’s hard work.

Lucy frequently gives her time to coach as well as leading the club’s weekly beginner cycle.

She has also led on the planning of the club’s two annual events, the Spring Triathlon and the Autumn Duathlon.

Unfortunately, despite the massive amount of work that went into them, the Covid-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of both events in 2020, but Lucy has made sure to pass on her knowledge, and many checklists, on how to run a successful event to the next committee once she graduates this summer.

Having taken his first step into the sport as a participant in East Fife Triathlon Club’s ‘Give it a Tri” initiative in 2016, Craig caught the triathlon bug and went on to complete his Level 1 qualification in 2017.

Having started coaching with the club’s junior section, it was not long before he began to coach at the adult section as well.

Enjoying his coaching so much, he progressed to complete his Level 2 last year.

Craig has committed a lot of his time to additional coaching CPD in pursuit of delivering added value where he can, undertaking the British Triathlon Strength and Conditioning CPD module in December 2017 which inspired him to begin to run Craig’s Friday Night Circuits for the entire club.

Throughout 2020 Craig has continued to develop his practice and became a familiar face during lockdown and beyond as part of Triathlon Scotland’s online Coaching Community, as well as beginning a new role as a Scottish Academy support coach.
