Falkland runners hit the trail at Benarty

On a cold, crisp sunny Sunday morning over 70 runners set off from Lochore Meadows Country Park to contest the Benarty Trail Race.

Fife continues to be a haven for athletes looking for competitive action, similar to events at Falkland and St Andrews the previous two weekends this one was also well attended by athletes from a variety of clubs.

Taking the honour of crossing the finish line in first place was Glenrothes athlete Chris Russell who was running the race for the Edinburgh Childerens Hospital. Following him in second place was Bryan Innes PH Racing Clib with Scott Affleck Pitreavie AC in third place.

In the female category Falkland Trail Running duo Susanne Lumsden and Susie Harley finished 1st and 3rd split by Mardie Templeman Team AAA. Overall Susanne finished in 7th place with Susie 20th.

A total of 73 runners completed the course for a race which would normally be part of the Benarty Gala Day.

As ever Falkland Trail Runners were well represented in the race their finishing positions were: 1 Chris Russell, 7 and 1F Susanne Lumsden, 8 Ieuan Ward, 20 and 3F Susie Harley, 30 William Starkey, 58 Jacqueline Cook, 59 Lizzie Martin, 67 Rosemary Lee, 70 Jude Alcock, 71 John Lee, 73 Bill Duff.

The campaign aims to offer a warm welcome to those new runners taking up the sport during lockdown or a welcome return to running for others it will highlight clubs and groups that are currently welcoming new members.
