Fife AC juniors prove to be amongst the best

The event saw more than 800 youngsters compete at U13, U15 and U20 level.

In his first year in the U20 age group, Ben Sandilands secured the silver medal in the men’s 800m in an indoor personal best of 1.57.46.

His time, which takes him to third on the Scottish U20 rankings for 2020, was even more impressive considering it was his third race of the weekend having already placed 5th in the 1500m final in 4.12.13 and second in his 800m heat in 1.59.98.

There were final spots for talented U15 girls Holly Ovens and Katie Sandilands.

There was a fantastic personal best for Holly Ovens, who just missed out on a podium spot when placing fourth in the 300m final in 44.27 after having already won her heat in 45.53, while Katie placed eighth in the 1500m final in 5.14.

The U20 trio of Aislynn Crichton, Peter Scott and Josh Hodgson ran well and were all unlucky to just miss out on spots in their respective finals.

Aislynn was third in her 400m heat in 60.15, Peter was second in a competitive 400m heat in 51.29 and Josh was fifth in his 200m semi final in 23.92.

At the popular annual Alan Scally Road Relays in Glasgow, which incorporates the Scottish Universities Road Relay Championships, Fife AC runner and Glasgow University dentistry student Annabel Simpson was part of the winning Glasgow University women’s team.

Scottish Cross Country silver medallist Annabel stormed to a course record, covering the 5k course in 16.19.
