As part of the pathway out of Covid-19 lockdown restrictions, gyms, and other non-essential outlets, were able to welcome customers through their doors again.

Amongst them is Fife Sports and Leisure Trust which runs gym and swimming facilities across the Kingdom, including the Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre in Glenrothes.

Just as they did following the first lockdown, when the facilities were open for a short time before having to close again due to rising Covid-19 levels, the trust has introduced an online booking system for users to book a slot.

And the take up was staggering.

The trust said: “We saw over 1000 bookings in the first 48 hours of re-launching our online booking system ahead of doors opening on our facilities across Fife.

"Unlike the first lockdown, which saw us operate a phased re-opening programme, we will open doors on facilities on the same date.

"Work is progressing to address issues related to Covid-19 health and safety measures at the Beacon Leisure Centre and the trust will update customers with an opening date.”

Emma Walker chief executive for Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, added that staff and facilities were safe and that the trust was very much looking forward to welcoming customers back to their local leisure centres.

"We’re sure that customers will be confident in the protocols we have in place which are in line with government, NHS Scotland and industry guidelines,” added Emma.

“Thanks to the hard work of staff, and previous experience of delivering Covid-19 secure facilities and programmes, I’m sure customers will experience the highest health and safety standards while enjoying the health and wellbeing benefits of physical activity.”

Ahead of facilities opening again, the trust has been running a series of outdoor fitness sessions which also proved to a be a hit with Fifers.

The Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre was one of four in the kingdom to provide the classes.
