It’s a marathon with a difference

A trio of Falkland Trail Runners were among 43,000 from all over the world who signed up to take part in Sunday’s Virtual London Marathon.

Competitors were challenged to run or walk 26.2 miles at a time and place of their choosing logging their progress on an app to make their time official.

The Falkland trio of Andy Harley, Hailey Marshall and Susanne Lumsden chose a testing route along the coastal path from Elie to St Andrews.

Andy who was the first of the trio to reach the West Sands said: “That was the hardest sporting achievement of my lifetime, a challenging terrain but what an experience.”

Susanne added it has been “a grand day out” while Hailey admitted it has been the “hardest run of my life”.

Owing to the Covid pandemic only an elite group of the World’s top athletes competed in London.
