Kinneston stable ready to jump to it

Similar to all other sports, horse racing has also had to sit it out since the lockdown began.

There was better news for the sport, however, with the announcement that the Scottish Government has hoisted the white flag for racing to resume in Scotland later this month.

Stables, such as Nick Alexander’s which trains at Kinneston near Leslie, are chomping at the bit to get back to some kind of normality.

The summer National Hunt season would by now be in full swing and Alexander would have had runners at the three day Perth Festival and the Balcormo Point to Point meeting at the end of last month.

When it does start back it will be behind closed doors and with all the stringent health restrictions in place.

Trainer Alexander said: “Before too long we will have a good idea of the race programme to the end of August and within that will be the resumption of jump racing in July and wouldn’t it be nice to think that by September we may be able to revert to the original plans with an enhanced jump fixture list to make up for some of what we have lost.

“We have about 50 horses turned out 24/7 enjoying the fine weather, they are carefully managed and the slow grass growth is actually doing us a favour.”
