But as the clock began to tick towards the start time it became apparent Prospects would be a man down.

Step forward Charlie into the breach to provide two crucial wins, as did his teammates Sandy Pearson and Ken Falconer, who, in addition, easily won the doubles.

None could tame Richard McLaren from Duffers, who scored the only points for his team.

Final score, 7-3 to Prospects.

In second division, New kids were travelling to the Telecoms’ house in Dundee to face Tass.

The latter were on top form as they took four out of the first six singles, led by unstoppable Emma Bisset who combined well with Kyle McPhee to win the doubles.

Collin Bleak won the final match of the night but Tass had already secured victory 7-3

St Andrews Swots couldn’t stop Comets hurtling through space and could only catch a glimpse of their tail as the team from Broughty Ferry had an impressive nine matches winning streak, and only Howard lee was able to prevent a whitewash by winning the ultimate game of the night.

Swots will be hoping they collected enough star dust to defeat Truants, their next opponents.

Speaking of which, Truants stood prepared to tame the Tigers at home.

Team captain Graham Wood, aided by Sascha Roschy and Alain Léger, secured the first two rounds of singles to go 6-0 before the doubles were played.

He sent his teammates to battle in the doubles, which they won, hoping to conclude the night on a flawless victory for Truants, which almost happened when he and Sascha secured their hattrick on the night.

However, Kenny McLaren for Tigers was too strong for Alain, giving his team a consolatory point.

Following the theme of 9-1 results, Bonifac Legrady started early for Prefects as they faced Rockets, by defeating Peter Yearworth.

Unfortunately that was to be the one and only point for Prefects on the night.
