But instead those lucky enough to have a tee off time for the new course, situated by Upper Largo, will just have to wait another few weeks before testing it out.

With golf clubs in Scotland still under strict instruction not to open their fairways, Dumbarnie had to reschedule its official opening for a couple of weeks to May 29 (pending government instruction).

The course is expected to quickly establish itself as yet another jewel in the crown for north east Fife and anticipation is high for play to begin.

The new date at the end of May could see the grand opening take place on the day when the whole country should be able to plan to resume golf again, following a scheduled announcement from the First Minister a day earlier.

Nicola Sturgeon’s address on May 28 is likely to see a loosening of restrictions, including the re-opening of golf courses, tennis courts and fisheries.

Scottish Golf, the governing body for the sport, says it is “working through final details” with both the Scottish Government and sportscotland to ensure that, when the time is right, golf can safely be included in any extension to exercise guidelines.
