Newcomer Alan takes Eric’s golfing crown

Alan MacDonald is a relatively new member of the St Andrews Rotary Club but he winged his way to victory in the Ken Smith Cup in a match against Eric Brown on the Old Course.

The game could have gone either way until Eric drove out of bounds at the Road Hole.

The silver cup has been played for every year since the late Ken Smith presented it to the club in 2007.

Eric lifted the trophy last year but was gracious in defeat and is shown here (right) with Ken’s widow, Mavis, congratulating Alan (centre) on his success.
