North east Fife and Kinross athletes ‘excel’ at champs

Fife AC juniors, including several from this area, excelled at the Scottish Schools Cross Country Championships at Hopetoun House near Edinburgh.

The stand-out performance of the day came from Isla Thoms, who struck gold in the group C girls’ race.

Representing Bell Baxter High School, Isla won from from Anna Cairns of Fortrose Academy and Jessie Gilchrist of Lanark Grammar.

In the same race, Ruby Russell of St Leonards School ran well to place 13th.

In the group B girls’ race there were top 10 performances from the talented Hedley sisters.

Older sister Anna secured the silver medal behind Hannah Ryding of St Ninians High School while younger sister Isla was close behind in seventh.

There was also a silver medal for Struan Bennet in the Group C boys’ race.

Representing Kinross High School, Struan was close behind Scottish U15 boys’ cross country champion Lucas Cairns of Fortrose Academy.

Finally, there were top 10 performances from Sandilands siblings Ben and Katie who were representing Balwearie High School.

Ben Sandilands was sixth in the group B boys’ race while Katie was 10th in the group D girls’ race.
