North east Fife golfer Connor Syme is cut out

North east Fife golfer Connor Syme missed the cut in his first European Tour event of the season.

Connor, from Drumoig, was handed an invite to compete at the weekend’s Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

But the 25-year-old failed to get off to the start he’d have wanted and missed the cut.

An opening round of 72 gave the Kingdom pro a chance of getting through to Saturday but, sadly, a second round 78 meant he finished the tournament in a tie for 111th place on +6.

There was better news for Lundin Links caddy Mike Thomson.

Thomson helped guide Scot Bob MacIntyre to a third place finish.

MacIntyre couldn’t get his nose in front of eventual winner, England’s Paul Casey.
