Plans in place for smaller scale race

Over the past three years the Bob Stark Memorial 5km Race, held at Falkland, has raised over £7,000 for Prostate Scotland.

This year’s event was scheduled for November 22, but the popularity and sheer size of the race rendered the latest edition impossible given the current Covid-19 pandemic and the safety guidance surrounding it.

Plans are afoot, however, to hold a small-scale race respecting the current Covid-19 rules for sport and competition.

The ‘Brian the Bear Race For Bob’ will take place instead on Saturday, January 2 at 11 am with a limit of 50 runners, starting in two separate waves.

The 4.5km trail race will start and finish at the rear of Beechbank, Foodieash and cover trails and footpaths courtesy of the Hilton and Cairnie estates.

Car parking will be available at the north end of the Hilton Stable Block.

With a minimum entry donation of £3, it is hoped to raise at least £150 for Prostate Scotland in what has been a difficult year for charities with many fund-raising events cancelled or dramatically downscaled.

Thirty-seven places in the race have already been snapped up.

Any local runners wanting to secure a remaining place for the event can do so by emailing [email protected] for an entry and more information.

Covid-19 contact and trace details are required.

Mr Stark was a longstanding and popular member of Fife AC.

He is remembered each year in the fundraising race by his team colleagues and other runners.
