The steep ascents and descents proved to be no obstacle to Marshall who sailed around the three-lap 7km circuit in 28 minutes 28 seconds, inside his time when the race was contested in reverse a month ago.

Cupar over 40 veteran Rhona van Rensburg excelled to place fourth overall, first female in 32:25.

Anstruther junior Oscar Geary headed the 2.8km one lap race with Isla Thoms (Balmullo) leading home the two-lappers.

It was heartening to see eight members of the Kirkcaldy Wizards training group travel up to the event with second placed female Michelle Johnston contesting her first ever cross-country race.

An event spokesman said: “Thanks go to Dave Francis and Jen Pickard U17 for planning the course and course marking, Wendy Ritchie timekeeper, Olivier Torres and Sharon Hedley course marshals.”

This was the fifth local cross-country race of the season held with social distancing and limited entry numbers within Scottish Athletics and government guidelines.
