The #OldCourse proves a star in the growing digital age

Golf fans, keen to follow in the footsteps of greats, have helped turn St Andrews’ Old Course into a social media star.

The experts at GolfSupport.com have been sussing out which courses the world over are the most popuar on Instagram.

They’ve taken 15 of the most famous on the planet and have analysed their hashtagged posts on the social media platform.

The results? it’s barely even a contest.

Our Old Course has ammased a phenomenal 42,159 hashtags, some distance past second place Muirfield on 13,185.

Four US courses make the ranking, with Pebble Beach in California raking up most tags on 8546.

A spokesperson for GolfSupport.com said: “The Old Course at St. Andrews is the oldest golf course in the world. It’s no surprise that this course, known to most golfers as ‘The Home of Golf’, is the most instagrammed location on our list with just over 42,000 hashtagged posts.

“The green fee price won’t break the bank either as St. Andrews ranks as the sixth cheapest summer green price.”
