Wide representation of clubs at Falkland Hill Trail Race

It was no surprise to see runners from 19 different athletic clubs converge on Falkland on Saturday for the Falkland Hill Trail Race, reports Shane Fenton.

The competitors had been starved of any competitive action or even group training for the past six months because of the Covid-19 restrictions.

The event was one of the first in Fife to be staged following the relaxation of some of the Government restrictions, with a total of 73 runners having to endure strong winds.

The fastest finisher by some 82 seconds was Stuart Paterson, Carnegie, who completed the course in 27 minutes 27 seconds.

The leading six finishers all represented different clubs. Following Stuart home was 2 Andrew Wright, PH Racing Club 28.49, 3 Chris Russell, Falkland Trail Runners, 30.32, 4 Munro Stewart, Dundee Hawkhill, 31.05, 5 Marcus Sheridan, Dundee Road Runners 31.45, 6 Ben Kinnimonth, Fife AC 32.30.

The leading female finisher was Julie Menzies, PH Racing Club, 35.02, followed home by Susanne Lumsden, Falkland TR, 35.27, with Nikki Gibson, Edinburgh AC, third in 36.16.

With it being on home turf, it was no surprise to see the local Trail Runners club well represented, with 17 runners in the field. Their finishing positions were: 3 Chris Russell 30.32, 7 Dave Clark 32.44, 15 & 2F Susanne Lumsden 35.27, 18 Kevin Murray 36.49,20 & 1m55 Mark Western 37.00, 33 & 1m60 Lyle Allan 40.26, 35 Robert Leggett 40.37, 50 Paul Wallace 45.40, 52 Tim Bennison 47.08, 54 Lizzie Martin 48.14, 60 Bill Duff 51.40, 62 Eric Nachman 53.25, 65 Alexa Tweddle 56.40, 69 John Lee 60.46, 71 Jacqueline Cook 62.47, 72 Jude Alcock 69.49, and 73 Sandra Gardener 73.01.
