Over 100 head out for Haddie's summer grand prix event

A glorious summers evening on Wednesday insured an impressive turnout for seventh race in the Haddies Summer Grand Prix.

The Hill of Tarvit race organised by Fife AC is also the third race in their Midweek Race Series.

Some 22 Anster Haddies from a field of 115 runners started in Ceres and followed and out and back course taking in road, farm tracks, the grounds of the mansion house and the Hill of Tarvit itself.

The tough 5.5mile route was run in an great time by club members Stuart McKenzie, first Haddie home and fifth overall in 37.10 with a course PB.

Ten other runners also improved their times and gained course PBs.

Like many other Fife athletes, the club was also represented at one of the pinnacle athletics events in the Kingdom’s race calendar at the start of the weekend.

The Black Rock Race took place on Friday.

This iconic race starts in Kinghorn, and is planned for low tide to allow runners to run to the Black Rock which sits around half a mile off Burntisland.

Runners are rewarded with a free bottle of beer once they have completed the course - making it all worthwhile.

Competing were N. Smith 26.05, R. Shaw 32.16 and A. Marr 34.39.

Parkruns proved as popular as ever on Saturday with Haddies taking part in five locations.

In Melbourne Australia, D. Hall 17.07 third overall.

St Andrews, G. Halliday 20.24 course PB.

At Camperdown Park, N. Smith in 18.07 finished second overall.

Perth was the eighth race in Summer Grand Prix.

Times were: A. Marr 20.33, J. Baillie 20.45. Falkirk, Y. Dehn 22.48, P. Cruickshanks 23.27 and F Cruickshanks 25.48.

Described as the most scenic trail Marathon in Britain, The Lakeland Trails Marathon follows a circular route around Coniston Water.

The course’s tough 26 miles provides panoramic views of Lake Coniston some reward to the runners for all the arduous climbs in very hot conditions.

Debz Hay finished in 5hours 46minutes.

George Hay completed the half marathon.

Training this week will be from Waid.

Members should meet at the venue at 6.30pm prompt to begin.
