Play-off deja vu for Flyers' David Brown

Brown was part of the Hull Stingrays side that knocked Clan out at the quarter-finals in similar circumstances last year, a series that also saw the Glasgow side concede a crucial goal in the final seconds of the first leg before losing the second leg in overtime.

However, Brown admitted that his success with Fife tastes all the sweeter due to the huge backing the team received from the Flyers fans.

“It’s very similar to what happened last year,” Brown said. “There are a lot of parallels - winning the second game in overtime against Braehead to go to Nottingham.

“But this is a little bit more special due to having the Fife fan base behind us.

‘‘It’s definitely one for the memories.”

With goals in the dying seconds of both legs, Brown admitted that the weekend play-off was the most exciting he has ever played in.

“I’ve never experienced anything quite like that, where it’s gone right down to the wire,” he said.

“We were involved in overtime last year, but to score the winning goal with 22 seconds left is pretty dramatic to say the least.

“When TJ got the goal I waited a couple of seconds to make sure it was in then I jumped up pretty high and got down there to celebrate in a hurry.

“It was great - real intense hockey. That’s play-offs.

“The fans were incredible, it was so loud in here and we really fed off that.

“We couldn’t have asked for anything more.”

In a short series where every goal scored or conceded could prove crucial, Brown had to be on top of his game for the full 125 minutes of hockey.

“It’s a little bit different playing aggregate score - it’s not like a three game or seven game series where you can bounce back or have an off game.

“You’ve got to be right on top of it every period, and I definitely had to be zoned in.

“We knew they would come at us in the second leg and the pressure would come in waves. That’s when we had to do our part and we were able to hold the fort.

“We were ready for it and I’m glad we came out on top.”

Brown now fancies Flyers chances in this Saturday’s semi-final against hosts Nottingham Panthers.

“It’s a good draw,” he said. “We’ve done well against them and anything can happen in one game.

“If we just keep playing our game, we have a pretty good chance of succeeding.

“It’s the home rink for them but we’ve just got to stick to our game plan and battle for 60 minutes.”
