TAYPORT travel to meet Newtongrange Star in a crucial East Premier League encounter tomorrow.

Both teams were relegated from the top flight last season and are considered the favourites to return to the Super League.

Tayport, however, go into the match on the back of a painful defeat against 10-man Oakley, while Nitten had to settle for a draw at Arniston.

When Tayport were last at Newtongrange, they recorded a 2-1 win, courtesy of goals from Mark Whatley and Roberto Morris, in what was the club’s first victory for months.

The result gave the recently appointed management team some belief that relegation could be avoided, but ultimately it wasn’t to be.

Now manager John McGlashan has promotion as his top priority, but he was not at all happy with last Saturday’s result.

He said: “That performance perhaps sums up what has been wrong at Tayport.

“There isn’t a problem with technique, fitness or tactics.

“It’s about a lack of character and I won’t accept a lack of character in my team.

“I’ll be doing my utmost to bring in players who will improve us on that front.

“At the moment, the players aren’t mentally strong enough.”

So, a vast improvement will be expected tomorrow, in a game which is due to kick off at 2.30pm.
