Powering her way to Belfast

Balmullo's Nicola Harcus is aiming to be the best of British when she lines up in a top nationwide competition.

Nicola has qualified for the British Masters Powerlifting finals in Belfast and reckons she’s in with a shout of returning with the top prize.

And a win could be the first step onto more success elsewhere, reckons the 40-year-old.

“After a few years of doing a variety of different activities decided I needed more focus and started training with Stuart Aitken Fitness and found that lifting weights was my strength he suggested that I give powerlifting a go and that’s how it started,” she said.

“After competing at the Scottish Masters Powerlifting Championship in November 2016 I achieved a qualifying total for the British Masters which I will be attending in Belfast on March 11 and 12.

“This will be my first British event.”

Nicola remains focused on her competition in Belfast, but also has her eyes on the next major championship after being bitten by the powerlifting bug.

And there will be an opportunity for local businesses and individuals to help her achieve her goals.

She added: “I will potentially be looking for funding later in the year for a Commonwealth powerlifting competition which is held in South Africa.”
