Queen Bees get busy on the ice to take title

Little Beehives, an independent nursery group with nurseries in Cupar, Strathkinness, Kirkcaldy, Newport and Montrose, has competed at the championships for the past five years.

Each time the organisation has submitted a team made up of employees from a different nursery or group within the business.

This year it was the turn of the Little Beehives head office in Cupar to represent the company and submit a team to take part, including managing director Jennifer Martin and HR manager Morag McPherson.

Seeking a third member, they were joined by Naomi Muir, lead practitioner at Little Beehives in Newport, who was recruited because she had taken part in the contest once before.

Each team competing at the event is also joined by a professional curler to help and advise them.

It proved to be a tough event, but the local club were on form to come out well on top.

After the competition, Jennifer said: “We are absolutely delighted to finally win this event, on our sixth time of entering.

“Our thanks go to Rachel, our professional, who was brilliantly knowledgeable and motivating - she inspired us to victory.”

“I used to own Jem Computers, who were also competing in the contest.

“We thought we might meet them in the final, which would have been very interesting but it was Fair City Amusements from Perth that we met, and luckily we were able to overcome them to clinch the title.

“We know that Perth & Kinross Council have won the event for the past three years running, so we feel that to overturn their winning streak is a fantastic achievement and we are very proud of ourselves.”

Naomi, who now has the trophy proudly on display in the Newport Nursery, added: “I really enjoyed the experience.

“I had competed once before so was happy to help out, but now I think I may have got the bug and am thinking of continuing with my curling and entering some day events.

“It really is a fun sport.”
