The event is a 100 mile sportive, billed as the London Marathon on wheels and sees over 26,000 cyclists ride the course.

This is its fourth year the event has been staged and is a legacy of the 2012 Olympics.

The Games back in 2012 are considered to have contributed to the growth in cycling in the UK.

The club’s Sally was fortunate not to have her ride disrupted and went on to use this to her massive advantage, posting a new PB.

She completed the course in London in 5:31:48 beating her previous PB by five minutes.

Chris, however, was delayed by an hour and a half when he was caught behind a serious crash.

This caused thousands of cyclists to be at standstill and then diverted through an alternative route.

His official finish time was 7:31:12.

The club’s Adrian Wood was also out in action as he took part in the Elie Triathlon, a relaxed local event comprising a 600m swim, 29km bike and 6km run.

Adrian came 13th, completing in 1.40.28.

The following day in Aviemore, the Scottish Championship Cross triathlon race was held at Badaguish in very windy conditions, making the swim very challenging in choppy water.

Fiona Lothian hoped to repeat her success from last year and defend her Championship title.

She did indeed finish first in her category in 2:43:11 and became female super vet Scottish Champion two years running.

A shorter version of this race is held the same day and Neil Pirie and Mark Snowden both raced and finished ninth and tenth in their categories in 1:21:34 and 1:30:43 respectively.

Battling the same windy conditions, Rebecca Trengove completed the Tour o’ the Borders sportive from Peebles, following a 120km route taking in five climbs, two of which particularly big and with gradients of 20 per cent.

Gusts of over 40mph made for a challenging and often dangerous environment.

Nevertheless Rebecca enjoyed the event and finished in 4:53:53.
