Races across the globe for Anster Haddies

This week has seen the Haddies competing all over the world in a series of park runs, hill races, cross country, marathons and ultra marathons

Gordon Halliday kicks the club off with an amazing feat of running whilst competing in the The Sandstone Way Ultra.

The route runs from the very top to very bottom of Northumberland starting in Berwick Upon Tweed and finishing in Hexham, linking crags and outcrops along its length, with many spectacular views in a landscape rich in history and scenery.

Gordon completed the course in a time of 28.45.13 which landed him the race’s second MV40 and third overall.

Last weekend also saw Davie Brisland make the trip overseas to take part in the Amsterdam Marathon Which is known for its fast and beautiful course.

The start and finish take place in the historical Olympic Stadium And over 12000 runners took part.

Davie came home in a great time of 3.36.38.

It wasn’t just on foreign shores the Haddies were competing, with the club members out and about in Scottish territory.

On Saturday Thomas Knox, Debz Hay and George Hay took part in the Meall a Bhauchaille hill race in Aviemore over a distance of 13k and climbs up over 700m.

The race proved to be a warm up for Thomas as on the Sunday he then completed the Run of the Mill Hill race in Alva, producing a course PB in a time of 1.17.16.

In the National Cross Country Championships in Cumbernauld the team of Pamela and Fiona Cruickshanks, Yvonne Dehn and Hazel Bradley all put in great times over each leg of the 4k course in similar times just over 18 minutes.

In Melbourne Duncan Hall continued his great recent form with yet another personal best time in the Melbourne 5k park run in a time of 18.44 and 2nd MS30.

In other park runs, Jas Bailie produced another great performance this time in Aberdeen in 20.58 - first MV55, in St Andrews, Bill Simpson was first MV60 closely followed by Allan Marr second MV60 and Catriona Duncan produced a time of 27.22 to finish 2nd fv60.

In Kirkcaldy the time and records continued to topple with Colin Mckie, Tich Shaw and Sandy Chalmers all producing course PBs with Tracy chalmers also producing a great performance.

Any body wishing to join the loacn running club as a new members should meet at Waid sportscentre on Wednesdays at 6.30pm.
