Rees siblings reach the gold standard

Representing St Andrews’ St Leonards School, the siblings tore up the track to secure gold medals.

The youngest of the talented Rees brothers, George, won a close group B boys’ race in 18.22 from Ryan Gray of Port Glasgow High School in his time of 18.23.

Middle brother Tristan went on to win the group A boys’ race in 21.54 from Gavin Smith of Stonelaw High School in 22.03.

Group B boys – Robert Sparks (Madras College) 14th

Group A girls – Ailsa Cruickshanks (Waid Academy) 10th

Four Fife AC athletes were in action representing the East of Scotland at the prestigious UK Inter Counties Championships at Cofton Park in Birmingham.

Newly crowned Scottish Schools Cross Country Champion Tristan Rees placed 30th in the U17 race and was part of the silver medal winning U17 team.

Angela Richardson was 45th in the senior women’s race, Halina Rees was 100th in the senior women’s race and Robert Sparks was 28th in the U15 boys’ race.

Closer to home, Fife AC held the popular annual Cupar 5 mile road race.

With a fast, flat out and back course, the race is known to attract a good quality field from all around the country and this year was again no different.

The race was won by Corstorphine AAC’s Dougie Selman in 24.37.

The top Fife AC finisher on the day was Ryan Lafferty, who placed ninth in a field of 176 in 27.33.

However, the performance of the day from a Fife AC athlete had to go to Annabel Simpson, who won the senior women’s race, placed 14th overall and smashed the female junior course record by over two minutes in an impressive time of 28.27.
