The race started in damp conditions but the weather improved to end in sunshine while Tiree’s beautiful scenery provided a magnificent backdrop for a really challenging mix of terrains with steep slopes, long sandy beaches, marshy bogs and craggy rocks.

Jim finished in just over eight hours.

Robin suffered badly with cramp from an early stage but stuck it out to finish in very credible 7hrs 30mins.

He was rewarded by the organisers with a spot prize for his determination to finish.

The club’s Jim Dunstan also received a special prize for coming to the aid of a runner in trouble during the latter stages, sacrificing his own race so that he could help them to the finish safely.

At the Great North Run, Malcolm MacTavish and Kenny Ritchie joined over 43,000 others in running the 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shields.

The warm and sunny day provided excellent conditions for the duo with Malcolm beating his target by over three minutes and Kenny setting a new personal best for a half marathon by over nine minutes.

Kenny also raised over £1050 by taking part in sponsorship for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Of the 15 LLV members at parkruns last week, Peter Rieu-Clark once again stole the show with yet another personal best, his seventh this year.
