Kirkcaldy Rugby Club's head coach Quintan Sanft is currently on a trip to New Zealand, in which he is liaising with local clubs.

The intention is to identify a replacement for last season’s find Sasa Tofilau, who has successfully completed his signing with Edinburgh Rugby.

Tofilau’s offloading skills tormented defences throughout the league and is one of the attributes that Sanft is looking for in a new player.

Meanwhile, last year’s vice-captain and players’ player of the year, Dayle Turner, will be representing Dundee High School Former Pupils in National Division 1 this season.

He goes with the best wishes of the Beveridge Park club and there are high expectations for him.

Pre-season training is also well under way, with a mix of strength and conditioning gym work on Mondays and cardio sessions on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays.

The summer fixture list also begins soon, with several matches already in the pre-season diary before a new campaign starts in the BT National League Division 2.

Kirkcaldy’s pre-season fixtures start on Saturday, August 6 at home to Carnoustie, with a team also due to play Waid 10s.

The following Saturday, they are away at the Livingston 15s tournament and then, on August 20, at home to Howe of Fife and Gordonians. On August 21, Kirkcaldy ladies host Howe Harlequins.

With a new season looming, the Blues have also paid tribute to the level of support they enjoy across the area.

“Crowd numbers are strong, especially at the annual sevens tournament, and our sponsors continue to provide us with great support.”
