However, there will be a change at the top when the season starts.

Smith, who was so successful in his first season with the Glens, is leaving to take up a new job, so the search is on for a new hand on the tiller.

Details of the coach’s responsibilities, and also those of assistant coach are available on the club’s website at

The club also look set to lose the services of last season’s top scorer, Shaun Gray, who has started his pre-season at Howe of Fife.

But Glens have already recruited a few new faces and are on the lookout for more players at any level.

The club is planning an open day at Carleton Park on August 13, with taster sessions for aspiring players at all levels from micro (P1-3), mini (P4-7), U14, U16, U18 and senior.

Everyone is welcome to come along and give the game a go, whether they have previous experience or not.

Rugby offers a great opportunity to get fit and to compete in the ultimate team sport which is also famous for its sociability – and Glenrothes is no exception in this respect.

The bar will be open and there will be a barbeque for those who get peckish.

At 3pm, the firsts play Lasswade in a pre-season game, for those interested in spectating rather than playing.

To top it all, the SRU is sending a member of its current elite Scotland squad along to the open day to offer advice and tips from their experience and, no doubt, to be available for autographs and photographs. The fun starts at 1pm on the day.
