Waid 45-10 Dundee Morgan

After the previous week’s disappointing trip to Bannockburn, Waid recovered well and made the better of the blustery conditions at Anstruther on Saturday.

Both sides looked for gaps in the opposition lines and despite initial Waid pressure, the first points went to Morgan after 15 mins with them kicking a penalty to put the first points on the board.

That seemed to be a spur for Waid, however, and the home team struck back with pressure starting to open the visitor’s defence.

From such a drive Adam Shaw gave the final pass for Scott Titterton to run past the defence and score.

Hughes Gillin added the conversion.

Adam Shaw then began the move for Waid’s second try from a scrum.

His pick up for and draw sucked in the defence, and then he offloaded to Callum Dunn, who forced himself over through the final defenders and scored - the conversion again added by Gillin.

Despite losing a player to a yellow card, Waid continued with the pressure and Niall Hutchison found a gap after repeated rucks to squeeze over.

That was quickly followed by a turn over by Waid coming from constant powerful tackling and it was joint man of the match, Mark Guthrie, who broke through to score.

Waid made a few changes at half time and the second half started with another Waid try.

Irvine Laing sent a lovely and unexpected kick off into the Morgan half and it allowed Waid to recover the ball quickly and make good progress up to the visitors’ five metre line.

Substitute hooker Ben Langlands then threw a cheeky dummy to the defence and crossed himself to score.

The conversion by Gillin followed.

Shaw then benefitted from a huge push from Guthrie to force him over for another Waid try before Waid lost a second player to a yellow card.

Morgan took advantage of the extra player and worked good ball beyond the outside of the Waid defence for a converted try.

Waid responded well to finish the match; with Callum Dunn and Jamie McCallum working together after Duncan Fraser kicked for the corner.

While Jamie took the head high tackles, Callum took the ball, and forced his way over the line to score, the final conversion added by Hughes Gillin.

Joint Man of the Match went to Mark Guthrie and Robert Smith for their dominant work in the loose and in the set piece.

Waid have no fixture this weekend.
