There’s a youthful enthusiasm in the air at Duffus Park as the Howe of Fife gets set to kick off its Tennent’s National League Division 2 season this weekend.
It’ll be a new look side which takes to the field at the weekend to face Falkirk, with head coach Chris Martin losing some experienced heads over the summer and drafting in some younger players.
The fresh faces have already proved themselves, pushing Lasswade all the way in a cup tie at the weekend (report on page 52) and coach Martin is more than happy to put his faith in his youthful squad this term.
He said: “We’ve put our confidence in the young players and are just backing them 100 per cent.
“I tried to keep a few of the players who left over the summer but, for us, it’s turned out to be a positive thing.
“They train hard, enjoy games and aren’t afraid to express themselves.
“There’s a real sense of excitement at the club.”
Saturday’s visitors are well known to Martin, and he’s expecting a difficult start to the new campaign.
He said: “I’ve played against them in National League One and they’re going to be a tough test for us.
“But we just have to focus on ourselves.”
