Runner up place at top event for Falkland skier

The action saw the racers enjoy near-perfect conditions on the resort’s Stella Alpina piste, with clear blue skies and compact snow making for some compelling racing.

Christey took full advantage, notching up two lightning-fast runs to hit second on the podium of the under-16 boys slalom, just 1.11 seconds off fellow Scot Owen Vinter.

The Kinross High School student freely admits the Slalom is not his strongest discipline, and with his preferred event in giant slalom still to come this week, Christey is backing himself for success.

“I am extremely pleased with this result in the slalom,” he said.

“Normally slalom isn’t my best discipline, so to get on the podium is brilliant.

“I just didn’t hold back on either run, and let the adrenalin kick in instead. GS is my best discipline, so I hopefully can get another result later this week.

“I am just trying to carry on skiing as much and as hard as I can and hopefully I can carry on doing it at a high level.”

The championships are celebrating their tenth year in Bormio, with over 400 of the country’s most talented skiers flocking to the Italian resort.
