Sam leads the way as runners remember Bob Stark

Fife Athletic Club hosted the Bob Stark Memorial 5k race at Falkland Estate.

Bob, who was a long standing member of the club, sadly passed away earlier in the year was remembered by his club colleagues and fellow runners. The charity event saw 131 runners compete over the challenging course.

Gateside junior Fife AC runner, Sam Fernando was first to finish crossing the line in 18 mins 04 secs.

Falkland Trail Runners had 11 members competing on the day with Derek MacDonald leading the contingent home finishing 30th in 22.51.

Other finishers were, 34 Kevin Murray 23.13, 65 Susanne Lumsden 27.19, 67 Bill Gillan 27.21, 69 Susan Harley 28.01, 83 Peter Rieu-Clarke 29.16 (1st over 70), 94 Bill Duff 30.51, 95 Alexa Tweddle 30.51, 98 Carole Mowbray 31.25 and 111th John Lee 32.22. Get Fit Falkland member Shirley Kay finished 129th.

With little other activities in the Kingdom at the weekend, attention focussed on the local 5k ‘Parkrun’s on Saturday.

Beveridge Park, Kirkcaldy, saw nine members compete over the two lap course, including the dreaded hill at the back of the park. The club secured the first three female finishers and they all experienced personal best times over the course.

Regular female winner Alison Sutherland finished 17th overall/1st F in 20 mins 33 secs with Izzie Robertson 22nd/2ndf in 21.10 and Kylie Smith 23rd/3rdf 21.09. At The Craigtoun Park Parkrun, 139 finishers completed the three lap course with Tom Ashton leading the scurry of Skwerlz home finishing third in 18.19. with over 50 member Brian Cruickshank a mere second beind in 18.20. Perth Parkrun saw three Skwerletz compete over the flat 5k course on the North Inch with Susanne Lumsden setting a P.B. finishing 35th in 23.21 followed by her daughter Kaitlyn (Jr U10) 25.59 and Carol Mowbray, also 25.59.

At Pittencrieff Park Dunfermline, husband and wife team of Len and Lynne ZabeK finished 25th and 52nd respectively.

Alexa Tweddle was the sole Skwerl at the Livingston parkrun where she finished 78th & 19thF in 28.58.

On Saturday evening, the club held their annual award ceremony at Falkland community hall where over seventy members danced the night away to the ceilidh band with a few fun games along the way.
