Showjumping year is set to be one to remember

Following on from the success of showing classes in 2015, Highfield at Howe is planning two shows per-month throughout the summer with numerous qualifiers for National Championships.

The newly enlarged warm up means that extra rings can be run increasing the opportunities to run a variety of classes.

Several breed societies have booked their annual show at Howe including the Highland Pony Society as well as a two day F21 show and the usual series of Puddledub events.

The first event of the Puddledub series, the Winter Workers Show, was held recently.

This show gave riders the chance to have a very early season opportunity to try some working hunter type jumps and height varies from clear round up to one metre.

A good turnout of horse and riders tackled the course which comprised of fences designed to resemble obstacles that one would encounter whilst out hunting.

The first showing show of the season will be held on April 17 with classes for all.

With the upstairs function room now available for hospitality at weekend shows and temporary stabling for visiting horses, the centre can now offer competitors a complete weekend away with their horses and like-minded people.

British Showjumping returns to Highfield on March 5/6 with category one classes on the Saturday followed by category two classes on the Sunday with unaffiliated showjumping on March 12.

For dressage enthusiasts, Fife Riding Club are holding a dressage to music demonstration at the centre on March 25 with Kay and Andrew Gebbie before a British Dressage affiliated competition on March 26.

Kay is a former Paralympian who won gold for GB in Sydney in 2000 with her freestyle routine.

Tickets for this demo, which will equip attendees with the tools to compile a freestyle routine, are available both from the Fife Riding Club website or from Howe Country Centre.
