Fife Flyers have added another forward on the eve of the 2013-14 ice hockey season.
Derek Roehl was announced today (Friday), and will make his debut against Cardiff Devils at Fife Ice Arena on Saturday.
A native of Michigan, he will be reunited in Kirkcaldy with former team-mate defenceman Tim Hartung.
The duo iced for Villard-de-Lens in France last season.
Roehl (25) is a former NCAA championship winner.
He won the Central Collegiate Hockey Association championship with Michigan University in 2011/12.
The addition of a forward gives head coach, Todd Dutiaume, more options up front.
He said: “We are really excited to be able to bring Derek in for the season.
‘‘The extra forward allows us to have a few more options open to us.
‘‘Derek will be another body we can use on the penalty kill and power play.
A natural centreman, Roehl can also ice on the wing, and that versatility will also help to strengthen Flyers’ bid for success sin their 75th anniversary season.
Danny Stewart, associate coach, said: ‘‘We’ve got a guy who is very well rounded and plays with some physicality.
‘‘ He comes from a very good college programme at the University of Western Michigan , and he will be looked on to contribute offensively wherever he plays while being a dependable guy in our end, on the PK and gives us much needed depth.”
